I was finally at my wits end with my Prusa MK3 i3 that I have had for a little over 3 years. I never really used this thing as much as others with 3D printers. Always running into odd issues with failed prints or poor quality. I finally got into a groove of printing some fun toys that I was going to print off for friends and family but after only 3 prints I got failed jobs one after another with the issue only progressively getting worse. At first I could get a almost a complete print and then the filament would stop extruding. This progressively got worse to the point were I couldn’t even get a first layer to to complete.
I ran down the normal route, check temperature, increase temperate, different filament, calibration, and so on. I found that it was the filament not laying successfully or not extruding successfully. I tried everything. Even during this I changed the hotbed temp sensor and also the hot end temp sensor still issues. The bed sensor was a separate issue with a wire short that developed. I was about to the point of just trashing this $1000 printer that I was so frustrated over. One issue after another.
I decided to replace the hotend with a new factory branded Prusa and the flexible steel sheet print bed, filament sensor, and most importantly a Assembled hotend E3D (this contained the whole hot end, tip, heating element, temp sensor, and also the thermal block).
This FIXED EVERYTHING! After another calibration wizard I started my first print with the new replacements and everything worked amazingly. I never had this printer work this well. Prints seem to be higher quality then when I first received the printer and no first layer issues.
What may have been the issue? Maybe the hot end temp sensor was going bad and not reading correctly. Also, I did figure my originally print sheet started having issues. Either way, I have never had a better experience with the Prusa printer. If you like me and at the point, you’re ready to throw out your printer, try replacing the hot end assembly and installing a new build plate.
